Failure is the difference between an expectation and reality. Failure is not who you are. Somehow the difference between these two states, expectation and reality, becomes an identity. We define ourselves by mistakes of the past. We become frozen, afraid to try again for fear of failing. Failure becomes the lens through which we see ourselves.

If we are not a failure then that must make us a success? Neither success nor failure are our states of being. You could say that just by the virtue that you are here you are a success. Just because your soul incarnated into a human form you are a success. What if that was the basis that defined your success as a human being? You were born. You did it. Success. No other measure needed. What if, at the most fundamental aspect, you are a success?

Would that change anything?

Or everything?

My earliest visions of God filled me with fear. As a young girl I imagined God overseeing the world from a throne in heaven where his X-ray vision bore straight to my soul to find every flaw, sin and wrongdoing I was up to. My fierce, church-going grandmother (God rest her blessed soul) drove the fear of God straight to my heart. Stick out your tongue was her mantra whenever she thought I was up to no good. Sure enough a black spot appeared on my tongue as a direct sign from God that I had in fact sinned.

From a quasi-Catholic upbringing, my spiritual search went from Heaven to Nirvana. I cannot recall the exact moment I heard the word enlightenment but it was the word itself that propelled me to seek. Enlightenment was a destination offering an escape from my internal misery and unhappiness. Nirvana, a world of perpetual bliss, was waiting upon my arrival. Like the proverbial carrot dangling right in front of my nose, it was always out of reach.

With no tangible taste of what enlightenment might be, my mind conjured up images of lone male monks meditating in remote caves high atop mountains. The goal of everlasting happiness was the reward on this solitary path to enlightenment.

We are all informed by our personal histories, families of origin and individual experiences but we are also informed by a collective consciousness that is shaped by a dominating belief system as to how the world operates. For centuries, masculine principles have had a monopoly on our prevailing collective consciousness, molding our mindsets and shaping our souls.

My early images of male authority figures as God and lone spiritual pursuits as attainment were heavily weighted by a patriarchal paradigm that has dominated our vision of the world from a masculine point of view. This masssive framework that infiltrates our minds and shapes our beliefs has held the masculine in power at the expense of the feminine. The suppression of the feminine principles has created an imbalance of power reflected both in the world within us and the world around us.

How well did we take care of our planet? This is our legacy. How wisely did we use the resources we have been given? How did we treat the source of all Mother Love right beneath our feet?

EarthDay

This will be what marks our success for generations to come. We have been given everything we need to survive, to thrive, to declare our destiny and create. We are powerful enough to create not only for ourselves but for our planet. What are we doing with it?

We are creating our world together. The plight of our planet is what serves as the measure of our virtue at this stage of our evolution.

Mother Earth. Pachamama. Gaia. We have given her many names. She has lived for billions of years without us. How are we now living with her? How can we create harmony and balance with our planet? This is where our attention needs to go.

When we think of the whole earth the task seems overwhelming. But we can ask how am I living in harmony and balance with our planet? What am I doing to create love and beauty? How can I be of service? What part do I play?

When will you take your seat?

The one that is waiting just for you.

The Full Moon in Capricorn is this Saturday, July 12th, bringing certain relationship dynamics to a head. Wherever communication has been lacking and emotions have been held in and back, prepare for whatever is pressing to come out on the table. Fortunately, Mars will also be trining loving Venus, which means if you are pure in your intentions to find a meeting ground and to resolve to evolve, your spirited talks will show the way.  Kristin Fontana, Evolutionary Astrologer

I recently returned to New York for the summer, grateful for the time and space to attempt to bring my book from chaos to order. Practices, rituals and ceremonies are woven throughout. As I was preparing for this upcoming full moon I thought to share an excerpt so you may use this time as an opportunity to transform your fears. For any ritual or ceremony, create a sacred space in whatever way feels natural to you. This can be as simple as lighting a candle or saying a prayer to align your intentions with the helping hand of Spirit.

Bring to mind a fear you would like to work with. Really give it full reign in your mind’s eye. Imagine the worst or recall memories or circumstances that validate your fear and offer proof that it is real. This allows you to feel it in your body. This fear can be energetically transferred through your breath to an element of nature. Use a stone and on your exhale empty all the energetic impressions that have laid a foundation of fear in your body into the stone.

Keep blowing into the stone until you have a sense of completion. Your stone is now holding this pattern. This fear code will be offered to the earth. Bury it if you like for the element of earth will compost the energetic vibrations. You may throw your stone in a moving body of water to cleanse and purify the energetic code of fear. This is a process that does not involve analysis of your fear the way therapy would but works beyond the mind at the level of vibration and frequency.

This clearing practice creates a vacuum in our luminous field as we begin to empty these energetic patterns of fear. In the presence of a void our energy field is going to look to fill that that space up. Our attachment to these patterns are often so strong and the roots go very deep that our field reshapes itself to the previous pattern. Once we release something we need to replace that with a new pattern. In this way we are rewiring our luminous field that in turn is informing and shaping our physical body.

How do we reinform our luminous field after a clearing? What is a simple and effective way to repattern the field after release? Notice what you would like to create or call into your life.

Abundance. Joy. A sense of purpose. Vitality or health. Balance. Prosperity.

There is an endless source of qualities to be informed by other than fear. You can begin to reshape yourself with a new vibration with a very simple practice.

Our most primal sense is our sense of smell. We have lost touch with its significance but watch any animal and you will see the power of this sense at work.

Find an oil that uplifts you. Try clary sage, bergamot, lavender, sandalwood or myrrh. Apply under your nostrils. Mentally vibrate your intention as you breathe in deeply. Use a mantra or create an affirmation in the present tense. Your primal sense of smell bypasses all that is logical and of the mind and associates this scent with a new vibration.
