There was a time in our history when we, as humans, lived in harmony with the rhythm of Nature. We tracked the heavens and followed the guidance of stars. From ancient Wisdomkeepers systems of healing and enlightenment have been mapped for us to follow.

Although we may have lost touch with lunar cycles and bemoan the force of Nature when it interferes with our own, we are still intimately woven into the mystical matrix of Heaven and Earth. As our individual consciousness is entwined within infinite consciousness we have the ability to source and create from this ancient portal of wisdom. One such tool to open that portal is the shaman’s mesa.

A shaman’s mesa is used for healing, divination, prayer and ceremony. A mesa deepens the awareness of non-ordinary states of reality. It is a spiritual anchor that keeps us grounded. Building a personal mesa is a journey of transformation that will deepen your connection to Mother Earth and heighten awareness to the rhythms and cycles of your own true Nature.

I am honored and humbled to share this first ever Mesa Building Journey with you as called by the Santa Tierras, the ancient feminine Spirits of the land. Each journey will take place over 40 days throughout each of Nature’s seasons. You are welcome to participate in one or all four seasons as you are called.

Our first journey will begin in Winter on January 10, 2015 and run until February 20th.

During this 40 day cycle you will receive all of the teachings, practices and information listed below by weekly emails. The group will close with ceremony on February 20th however you are free to continue with the process taking as much time as needed allowing you to work at a pace that suits your schedule and lifestyle.

Some of the practices are sequential in nature, meaning you will need to complete one before moving on to the next, but that will be included when you receive your emails each week.

We begin building our mesa by discovering a stone or kuya. These will be found in Nature or you may already have a stone or crystal you want to work with. Through a heart centered meditation we will set a personal intention to be held in our kuyas to guide us through this 40 day cycle.

I will open our journey with a despacho or prayer offering to align our intentions with the wisdom of Winter and call on the guidance of Pachamama and Spirit.

Each week instruction and practices on working with your kuyas will be sent via email in video, audio or written format depending on the information. This allows you to participate on your own time and schedule.

Our Teachings for the Winter Season will include:

  • Setting a Personal Intention to Guide Your Journey
  • Opening Sacred Space
  • Creating an Altar
  • Shamanic Journey to meet a Spirit Ally
  • Clearing and Purification Practices
  • Using Your Kuya for Prayer, Healing and Divination
  • How to Use Your Kuya in Day to Day Life
  • Caring for Your Kuya
  • Kundalini Meditation/Daily Practice
  • Journaling Assignments
  • Personal and Collective Despacho Ceremony

Establishing a daily practice during this time with your kuya and a Kundalini meditation is highly recommended and instruction will be provided. The specific meditation we will use will help release old patterns and habits thereby opening pathways for allowing what we need into our lives.

Space for questions and sharing will be provided through a closed Facebook group and via email. Although we will be working individually, our journey is amplified by the collective like-minded intention of a group, uplifting each other and exponentially increasing the power of our individual process.

If you are in Northern New Mexico, we will open our journey by gathering on Saturday, January 10, 2015 to meet our kuyas in an arroyo in Abiquiu where few travel. This journey began through the stones gifted to me in this very same place.

Registration for the 40 day online course in the Winter season is $40.00 through paypal. Your registration insures you receive the weekly curriculum via email. Click here to register.

During an intense few weeks this October, my life changed dramatically through circumstances and events that broke down the life I was living and opened the doorway to a new reality orchestrated by the Divine hand of Spirit.

During this time the land in New Mexico spoke to me through stones found during an early morning hike in an arroyo in Abiquiu. These stones held information on teaching people how to build a personal mesa.

A mesa is a shaman’s altar or medicine bundle used for healing, ceremony, prayer and divination. It is a portal to Spirit and deepens our awareness to non-ordinary states of reality.

DSC03302

I have carried a mesa for the past 10 years, starting with the Four Winds Light Body School and the teachings of Alberto Villoldo. Since that time I have had the great privilege to deepen my practices with medicine men and women in the high Andes through the Bouquet of Light Women’s Journey to Peru to awaken the Divine Feminine.

My mesa has changed in so many ways over the years as kuyas or healing stones have been added and released. This journey now creates a whole new mesa for me.

For some, a mesa looks like a bag of stones or arrangement of rocks and on a literal level this is true. But at the mythic level a mesa deepens your connection to Spirit and anchors you to Mother Earth. A mesa teaches us to listen to the voice of Spirit as it moves through us. The only reason I have any sense of what the stones in the arroyo were speaking of was because of the connection to my own mesa.

Each stone, or kuya as they are called in one’s mesa, represents a particular location in Northern New Mexico to gather for ceremony. Each ceremony will be an opportunity to receive a kuya and begin to build a personal mesa. Although these kuyas represent locations in Northern New Mexico, you can participate from wherever you are and build a mesa with stones from your own native land.

IMG_4075

Each kuya is received during one of the four seasons. The cycle of seasons become the reference point for building our mesa helping to deepen the connection to our own inner rhythms and cycles as each season becomes a mirror for our own reflection.

During each season we will hold an intention for our personal evolution and transformation as we learn to work with our kuyas or healing stones. Each season will also include information and teachings on:

  • Opening Sacred Space
  • Creating an Altar
  • Shamanic Journey to meet a Spirit Ally
  • Clearing and Purification Practices
  • Kundalini Kriyas and/or Meditation
  • Guided Breathwork Session
  • Journaling Assignments
  • Personal and Collective Despacho Ceremony

The Mesa Building Journey will be offered on land as well as online allowing you to participate from wherever you are at a pace that suits your lifestyle although establishing certain practices each day will be highly advisable. A forum for communication and group sharing will be created through a closed Facebook group.

I never had any thought about teaching others to build a mesa but it is clearly Divine intent. Although this journey is still shaping itself into being I am inspired to start sharing and spreading the news of this unique opportunity for spiritual transformation that is being guided and informed by the Santa Tierras, the ancient wisdom of the feminine land spirits.

Registration for this first time ever experience will begin in the season of Winter after the start of the New Year so stay tuned for more information.

I thank you for spreading the news!

One of the most auspicious gurus to cross the threshold to a new year with is a Spirit ally.

A Spirit ally reinforms our walk on Earth by guiding us from dimensions that are higher, wider and deeper than the limited lens that often informs our world view.

image[7]On a recent journey I met a white tiger, one whose wisdom I have been calling on ever since.

There is no special invocation needed to call forth a Spirit guide. They are always with us. Calling to them is more to orient us to their presence.

Information from a Spirit ally can come through in images, as words or as a felt sense or knowing in the body.

I often call upon the wisdom of a Spirit ally during my yoga practice as I meet a block or tension in my body, however any moment is perfect.

IMG_7005

This morning as I practice I become witness to a self-created inner drama.

I am alone in the home of my former husband where I am visiting with my daughters. My sister-in-law returns after a morning errand. In my solitary practice I am now aware of the presence of another. I begin to question whether I should invite her to join me.

An inner conflict arises as to whether or not I am being selfish, anti-social, anti-yogic for wanting to be immersed in the nourishment of my practice without tending to the needs of another. Suddenly I am loathing myself for being so self-absorbed.

Early in life I learned that a want, need or desire was self-centered. That correlated to bad; something I did not want to be. Needs were viewed through a narcissistic window where I began to see myself as a selfish little girl I did not want to be.

Seeds of judgment laid deep roots. My desire to be solitary in practice this morning triggered the self-absorbed narcissist I loathe.

I call on White Tiger.

immediately my breath is fuller as if creating more space for what is present. I feel more deeply in my body. Judgment is the mother’s milk that keeps the mean and selfish one running on a perpetual loop of self loathing.

In the presence of White Tiger my internal judgment softens paving the way for compassion.

Each one of us has had to develop conditioned responses that are less than noble to ensure the love and attention we so desperately need to survive. We have all had the perception of our true nature perverted by erroneous beliefs imposed upon us. By their very nature these responses are habitual and unconscious keeping us blind to our own ignorance.

What is there to judge in this way of being human?

Judgment shuts the door on any possibility of change.

White Tiger shows me to let go through this felt sense in my body. Not only of the judgment I hold against the selfish one in me, but to let go of judgment for all beings who have suffered simply for being human.

Wisdom of White Tiger

WISDOM OF WHITE TIGER

Guidance from a Spirit ally may also appear as messages that can become powerful personal mantras.

I AM WHOLE.
I AM SOVEREIGN.
AN ENTIRE KINGDOM DWELLS WITHIN.

These are just a few ways a Spirit ally can work on our behalf to empower and awaken us to the truth of our own nature.

The Shamanic Journey from A Structure for Spirit is now available on soundcloud.com so you may meet your own auspicous guru to guide your way in the year ahead.

What you will need:

  • 30 minutes of time and space free from distraction.
  • Pillows and blanket as needed for comfort.
  • Bandana or blindfold if you like to deepen your sense of darkness.

In An Ancient Cry of A Lone Wolf I shared a shamanic journey with spirit wolves. An image that has stayed with me is one of a male and female wolf, connected at the third eye in a bow of honor to each other. This image led to a reading of my mesa on the Inner Beloved…

There is a marriage that takes place within. A marriage between the sacred masculine and feminine. We are often unaware of the internal conflict between these aspects of ourself.

There is a clear distinction of the masculine and feminine principles that guide us. One aspect of these qualities is represented in the male heart as the archetype of the king, the non-corrupt warrior power in integrity.

One way this is expressed in the feminine heart is the womb, the vessel for the seeds of creation, the archetype of  the mother, Gaia, Earth Mother, the depths of unconditional offering for all things.

When an aspect of our masculine or feminine is diminished or lacking in some way we will look to fill this up through the relationships we seek and create thereby setting the basis for dysfunction and co-dependency. This is when we rely on someone outside of ourself to fill the void within us. We are in and of ourself complete.

This does not mean we can only enter into relationship once a whole state is achieved. When awareness of the strengths, the weaknesses and the tendencies of how our masculine and feminine are operating within us are known to us, we are able to bring our relationships to higher levels of consciousness. We need to know ourself first. These patterns are often habitual and conditioned leaving us little room for evolution but rather keep us stuck in patterns of relating that bring harm to ourself or another.

The collective feminine is now burgeoning, coming forth in greater fullness and power. This is not to be perceived in any way as a threat to the masculine. This is not ever what the feminine seeks. She does not seek dominion over but rather longs for  union rooted in honor and respect. She longs to give and offer her love and her light freely and asks that the power of her gifts be valued.

What is this foundation of internal sacred union built on?

The full spectrum of expression of both the feminine and the masculine without judgment, without criticism, without belittling, embarrassing, humiliating, shaming. How many of these patterns operate in our current relationships? A trust that both are honored, respected and valued for what is inherently divine within each. A recognition that each is essential to the other so no barrier exists between the flow of these energies within and between.

We move from co-dependency to interdependency. A weaving rather than a wall.

Each seeks freedom now from the repressive chains that have bound both the masculine and the feminine and shaped them into limited and conditioned expressions that have not served either by meeting in their diminished capacities. It is the healing of the sacred union within each individual, the sacred marriage that begins to take place within the heart, the mind and the soul of each person, regardless of gender, that will begin to create a new paradigm on Earth.

There is a flow and a listening required within our own heart. A bowing and reverence to our inherent sacred gifts expressed through the masculine and feminine of who we are. A presence and an attention of the masculine naturally fosters an appreciation from the feminine.

From the heart of the feminine emerges beauty, not in the way it has been packaged and served to us. Beauty as seeing a sacredness in all things. A sacredness of life. Creation of sacred rituals. Beauty  as an empty vessel that allows the divine to flow through. A beauty in the heart that sees all as beauty.

The feminine also emerges as the erotic, sensual, undomesticated Goddess. The wild and untamed power of intuitive wisdom, the visionary bestowed with psychic gifts. These are the heights and depths through which the feminine expresses herself.

The masculine offers direction, a purpose and focus that creates a sense of moving towards. There is a passing of knowledge and transmission of wisdom from one generation to the next, from one person to another that the masculine expresses through words, intellect and by creating community of the highest order of the heart, the divine kingdom.

The masculine speaks in stillness. He moves in silence not only in the direction of moving forward but also in the direction of depth.

The feminine moves in cycles, through flow, through dance, through non-linear patterns.

In sacred union the value of both stillness and dance are revered.

Our greatest power resides in deep humility, no longer falling prey to the seduction of our ego. Black obsidian sits at the very bottom of this alignment pointing to our infinite depths that transcend all duality, even our masculine and feminine. The way of the sacred path that opens the portal to the vast void of the unknown, where all energy is consolidated in the black hole of the deepest mysteries.

This is what the kuyas speak.

Meditate on the image with eyes open or closed for at least five minutes.
This allows the vibrations of this pattern to reinform you,
encoding you energetically.)

Shamanic journeying accesses other levels of consciousness and puts you in communication with Spirit. Receiving information from these realms offers a higher and wider perspective from which to see your life journey.

The easiest way to enter these other dimensions is through the breath. And the most rapid dimension altering breath I have found is a circular one. Mouth open. Jaw soft. A continuous loop of breath in and out of the mouth until the veils between the worlds become thin.

Lay on the belly of Mother Earth. Send her your sorrows, your heartaches, your falsehoods and beliefs. Surrender them from your heart. Surrender them from your belly. Let her take the weight of these from you and offer them to her graces. Return to our Mother for healing all that no longer serves you.

With a sincere heart ask for a gift for your healing. Begin with your breath. Breathe in the love of our Mother. Breathe out and empty. As you enter the portal to Spirit notice images, sensations, feelings. Ride the breath on the wings of Spirit until you are met with surprise.

Under the Full Moon of Aries I lay belly to belly on the Earth with a call from my heart to find its way.

A circular breath in and out of my mouth. The life force of Pachamama draws in with each inhale. Every exhale I empty into her belly.

I ride the breath to a Spirit journey. Skipping over stones down, down, down a spiral path. I reach a stream and begin to float in its current. I am taken to a waterfall under which I sit. Washed clean and purified.

I travel through woods until I come across a corpse. It is me lying dead in the woods. My neck torn open in a gaping hole. Vultures meticulously eat away at my exposed flesh.

It is dark. I am running. Running as a wolf through woods I do not know. Confused and lost.

The pain of being lost, not knowing where I am going brings me to tears. Painful to be so alone, on my own, lost in the woods. An ancient cry of a lone wolf.

Exhaustion keeps me from running any further. I begin to drink from a nearby stream my exhaustion soothed by its waters. A reflection of my wolf face appears in the water. I lap this up. A love of self feeds me as I drink in this reflection. An act of tenderness full of self nurturing.

The weight of an ancient wound is heavy on my back. Doing everything on my own, always on my own. An isolating pain of this lone wolf met with more tears. Dropping like rain to the sands of Pachamama.

Wolves begin to appear around me. One at my side devoutly begins to lick my body. Again I cry. Tears of gratitude wash through me as I receive this blessing. Tasting love as never before. Every wound in my heart stroked clean with love.

Through tears of  gratitude for this unforeseen devotion I return these caresses sweeping my tongue over this beloved wolf until our necks intertwine. Our throats meet in a posture of deep vulnerability, exposed and open full in an ecstatic union of trust. I abandon to a depth of feeling never before known.

Ancient wounds of pain and isolation, devoid of self-worth are met with a deep vulnerability and uncharted trust.

My eyes open. Before me lies a small seed cracked open in the shape of a heart. I blow my prayers of gratitude for this journey, gratitude for Pachamama, gratitude for the tender love and healing of the Spirit wolves into this seed, this cracked open heart. I set them free to the flow of the tides.

I return to the beach that evening with my drum.

Under the full moon I call to Great Spirit.

I call to the belly of our Mother.

I call to the sacred and holy breath.

I call to the stillness of the waters.

I call to the Lightening flashing in the night sky.

I call to the Song of the Wolf beating in my heart.

I call to Ancient ones sparkling as Stars overhead.

I call beyond time.

A call beyond space.

I call from my heart.

A heart held in grace.

Be humble for you are made of Earth.
Be noble for you are made of Stars.

Although a story may be a personal one the wound it touches is often one of the collective. This my friends is one such story…

I awake from a dream…

I am climbing a broken ladder, the hook and ladder kind found on a firetruck. It swings precariously from a second story doorway as I try to reach home. Each of my hands clutch something in their fist leaving me unable to hold on for safety, a tenuous mid-air balancing act as I try to keep from falling off. Below me, rising up from the ground, is the bottom half of the ladder that has disconnected from the top. A disoriented drunk man is trying to climb up. All I know is I want to get away from him.

My heart has been broken. My most beloved slipped from my life to the arms of another lover. To behold his love and devotion committed to another woman breaks my heart in two, the broken hook and ladder kind. This is not the first time my heart has been broken. This broken ladder started long, long ago, before this lifetime I am sure. (I will spare you my friends the ramblings of any past life musings.)

Longing for the attention of a father lost in a dry martini with a twist is where the ladder first broke. With no safe ground beneath me, my heart clutched to fear, tenuously stuck between wanting to get home and wanting to run away. My innermost heart shaped itself from this first broken heart. Attracting deeply wounded men that I could not count on was a mirror of the broken ladder of my own heart.

The dream of this broken ladder is the longing for its repair. It cries out through personal dreamtime. It is intimately linked to a collective slumber so a bridge may be built between masculine and feminine. Healing our personal wounds is what shifts the collective. The desire for my heart to entwine in unity is the desire of the heart of humanity. Healing the collective starts by holding my heart with deep honor and respect. The feminine longs for relationship. Her healing comes through connection. The gaze of the wounded masculine avoids the glare of the wounded feminine with her need to be loved. With a chasm as wide as any canyon how can a bridge ever be crossed?

I journey to the waters for the healing of my heart…

As I dive below the waters in which I am held I call forth from my heart a Spirit ally. One who will guide me underwater to the healing of my heart. A jellyfish appears. Its tentacles wrap themselves around my heart. The charge of electrical impulses surge through me like a defibrillator shocking a heart in cardiac arrest. An electric current is restoring flow where my heart has lost life force. Currents of trust flow through my heart. More shocks come through pulsing in love. Other waves recharge my heart with gratitude. Masculine and feminine timidly turn towards each other in a long awaited reunion. The impassible bridge has been crossed on waves of trust, love and gratitude. A prayer of tears wash me clean with compassion for my most tender heart.

An unexpected ally from the world of Spirit. I confess I am not usually fond of swimming with jellyfish. On retreat in Bimini jellyfish filled the underwater alcoves we explored. I was struck, for the first time, by the beauty of their transparency in a nearly invisible form. Their utter abandon to flow and fluidity.

The jellyfish of all things knows how to repair this broken ladder. It appears as a teacher of the pure of heart. The purest of heart does not cling to hurts or betrayals. The purest of heart flows on the waves of trust. This ally of Spirit knows how to cross an insurmountable bridge to wholeness. Transforming the broken and lifeless space in my heart to one of union and love with a direct infusion from the lifeline of Spirit. A healing that reaches through time. Restoring a bridge to a lineage of male ancestors no longer connected through our brokenness. A vision for the future no longer created by dragging around the weight of a broken heart.

At any moment the shifting tides of life unveil what is ready to be healed so we may rise to the majesty of who we were born to be. It may float through in dreams. It may reflect in the mirror of your beloved. Its roots may lie in the family of origin. Whatever the source we can choose to look away or look within.

Let the tides of life wash clean your heart. May you travel to new shores on the waves of trust, the waves of love, the waves of gratitude in a co-creative dance with the world of Spirit who deeply longs to dance with us.

I share with you these dance steps for they are not my own. They are for every heart to remember who we are. So we may wake from the collective slumber. Dream a new dance of the sacred union of male and female into being.

One that begins with a heart beating in trust.

A heart beating in gratitude.

A heart beating in love.

AHO my friends! AHO!

Offering ceremony through the internet transcends previous boundaries, forms and ways of participating. We have an opportunity to connect from all over the world. It is a reflection of the magical and mysterious matrix of which we are all part. I honor and give thanks to each Soul that is called to offer prayers and intentions here to uplift the whole.

As we gather under the darkness of Mama Killa, Grandmother Moon, we open our hearts to give thanks for the bounty of Pachamama and receive the gifts of vision.

This month’s intention for our New Moon Despacho is inspired by the Pachamama Days of Peru. The shamans of the high Andes dedicate the month of August to honoring Pachamama and dreaming the world into being for the year ahead through the despacho ceremony. This ceremony weaves us to powerful visionaries and links our prayers to the collective intent of the paqos, the shaman priests.

When we strip our hearts naked and taste its longing we discover our personal prayers are a call to humanity, a prayer of the collective. The essence of every heart longs to be in union with Spirit, to know the song of its Soul and express that for the good of all while we are here, in this kaypacha, the Earth plane. Our individual prayers become prayers for the collective. My prayers empower your prayers. We uplift each other. This is the meeting ground of ceremony.

We offer our collective hearts to Spirit.
We let go of the attachment of how our visions and dreams
will manifest in the kaypacha.
We cultivate trust in the divine order.
We surrender to the great mystery
so we are no longer guided by the voices of fear,
the limiting belief systems
and old paradigms that have laid false imprints in our minds.
We deepen our connection to Nature
and open the channels to Spirit
as we fearlessly step into the guidance
that is so willingly offered to us.

AHO!

If you would like to add your prayers and intentions to this New Moon Visioning Despacho create a time and space that feels sacred for you. You will need about 20 minutes to follow this ceremonial video. We start with a short purification ritual followed by a journey of your heart to the year ahead. You are then guided on how to offer your prayers and intent to the qintu (a prayer holder that is placed in the despacho). I suggest viewing on full screen by clicking arrows at bottom right corner of video.

The following suggestions are offered after ceremony to integrate this experience more deeply into your being (these are on the video as well):

  • Create a Sand/Earth painting – gather natural elements such as sticks, stones, flowers. Let these reflect different aspects of your vision. Create a border for your mandala on the Earth and arrange these elements in a meaningful pattern for you. This would be beautiful to anchor in your garden if you have one.
  • Create an Altar for your Visions – dedicate a space with a small cloth or textile and place any objects that symbolize your vision. Feed your altar by lighting a candle, leaving offerings or spending some time in meditation there. An altar will help hold and carry your visions to the year ahead.
  • Express your Creativity – journal about what you feel in your heart or your dreams. Paint, draw or create a collage or vision board of your experience. The artistic expression integrates the experience more deeply into your Soul.

From the bottom of my heart
I bow in gratitude
to the beauty
of each and every heart.
Thank you,
Thank you,
Thank you.
