photo 1As a group of women gathered under the light of the full moon in New York, a man in New Mexico quietly prepared the way for ceremony. Most of our evolutionary conversation speaks to the awakening of the feminine yet the cosmos aligned under a super full moon to tend to the wounds of the masculine.

As the moon waxed towards fullness I wanted my kuyas, the medicine stones of my mesa, to sit on Pachamama to guide our full moon fire ceremony. I was in New York. My mesa was in New Mexico.

The mandala of kuyas was laid on the earth just as I had asked. My visioning stone was placed on top of a selenite wand facing the Dark Mountain in a call to the Apus. Beneath the wand lay a heart-shaped kuya from the holy mountain Ausangate holding the spirit of a warrior. Offering support at the bottom were three kuyas with turquoise stones placed on top aligning Earth and Sky.

I envisioned this mandala as a source of guidance for our ceremony but never expected it to look the way it did as it lay on the Earth. A lingam was created or more loosely translated, a penis. I was hesitant to share the mandala of my mesa as embarrassment shrouded my vision from public view.

A ceremony begins long before a gathering takes place. As this powerful phallic symbol sat on the Earth I began to feel its strength. During my morning practice my body had become the mandala. Sitting strong in lotus I felt a deep connection to the Earth. My arms reached to sky with fingers pointed as my visioning stone. My spine felt clear as the selenite wand. I embodied the energetic vibration as the pure essence of direction and the steadfastness of one pointed focus.

I embodied the power of the masculine.

As this sense of pure direction landed in my body, the awareness of how I was directing my own masculine energy became apparent. Like a sword I had turned its direction against myself to control my own feelings and shape my feminine to hide her power.

As our sisterhood gathered that night for ceremony an altar was built with flowers gathered from gardens tended with love.

Flower Offerings Held Prayers of Gratitude

We prayed for our Earth Mother and birth Mother. We prayed for our sisters and daughters. We prayed for our grandmothers. We prayed to empty our hearts of the wounds held in our relationships with all women.

We prayed to the Father, the power of the Sun as sustainer of all life, to the Father that created us. To our husbands and lovers. We prayed to our brothers and grandfathers. We prayed to empty our hearts of the wounds held in our relationships with all men.

We prayed to build a bridge in our own heart between masculine and feminine. We prayed to heal our own wounds so that we may be the peacekeepers, the healers, the lovers, the visionaries that build bridges between all hearts.

We prayed with the fire in New York as my mesa was lovingly tended by a man in New Mexico building bridges between Earth and Sky under the Light of the Full Moon.

It is such an honor to offer this reading at the request of my dear lodge sister Carla Goddard, Shaman Medicine Woman, for her virtual Full Moon Healing Ceremony on Wednesday, November 28th.

I held a fire on Friday night, the 23rd, as I opened my mesa with the intention of asking what do those who are called to this fire need to see? My mesa lay open on Pachamama, under the night sky, one that brought rain and fierce winds by morning. All elements were present and accounted for!

There is a beauty and a mystery that burns within every soul that calls us to this fire. One that cannot be known through intellect. A calling that spans through time and space, through any perceived borders or boundaries. A call from all directions on our globe. There is no differentiation of race, creed or belief that determines the arrival of each soul to this sacred destination.

We have come for we are doing the work of the collective. Burning ancient roots embedded in both our personal and collective psyches. Burning mistaken identities of who we are. Burning ideas and beliefs of what does it mean to be spiritual. Burning masks of what we think our spiritual personas are supposed to be.

False and mistaken identities we have come to believe as truth. The limited versions of ourself. The overly nice parts of who we are. We have come to burn the shadows of our soul. Our demons are a part of our humanity that cannot be ignored, suppressed or denied for it is the demons of our darkness that are clamoring to the light. Hidden in fear for centuries, through eons of time.

This is what is deconstructing. This is what is called to the fire now. The longing of the lies to die. Our souls can no longer tolerate the lies we have told ourself, the lies imprinted upon us. We have lived with these lies for so long we are uncertain of who we are. Without these false cloaks of spiritual identity there is chaos. A deconstruction of what we think we know. And this is part of what calls us to this sacred flame.

Yet the fire also feeds our luminous body. It feeds our passions. It fuels the spiritual seeds of awakening just as water nourishes seeds planted in the belly of the Earth. Our spiritual seeds are awakened by fire. We are called to deconstruct. And we are called to rebirth. To become more intimate with the sacred fire that burns within each one of us. To learn the ways of tending our own sacred fire so our fires are not raging out of control. So we have enough resources to sustain and feed our fires. So we keep the eternal flame of our sacred fires burning in our hearts and bellies to feed our sacred purpose and our walk in the world. To feed and tend our relationships both with ourself and with those we are most intimate with. So that the fires within us do not consume the fires of another but rather feed and sustain the fires within every soul.

The shell at the bottom is off my mestana (textile). It speaks to the depths that are necessary. The depths of listening, the depths of vulnerability that we are being asked to surrender to in order to source from the deepest waters of mystery. The strategies we have used to control and manipulate the outcome are no longer sustainable to navigate the course of our life. We may believe we have given up all control. We are being asked to go deeper than ever before. Deeper into the unknown. We must be surprised, allow something new to arise and awaken from our depths or we are holding on to the safety of certainty.

Our vulnerability is the source of our truest power. Any place not in alignment will not be sustainable. This may appear as a crisis and create fear around a loss of control. But the crisis is an agitation of a state of being whose energetic vibration can no longer be sustained.

Our roots have anchored us to our past. Our roots have hidden in shadows. We may be blind to how our demons are informing our actions. We cannot change what has come before but if our roots are tangled in resentment, bitterness or anger we need to clear these channels so our roots are anchored in our power to create. Our channels to source are clear. We consolidate our creative power and channel that life force energy so we may align with our sacred purpose. We cultivate a sacred expression of our life in action.

Our source arises in stillness. Our inner authority is our guide. The direction we travel is one of depth. The depths we reach in silence and stillness are the depths to which we ride the rivers of our destiny.

This is what the kuyas speak.

“Our task is not to seek for love,
but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself
that you have built against it.”
Rumi ~

Here are a few things to prepare for our New Moon Despacho as we gather as a virtual community to unravel the knots of our heart that block the flow of unconditional love or what shamans call munay. We ceremonially offer these barriers to restore our hearts to munay so we may right our relationships to others, to Pachamama, to Spirit, to our own Soul. We bring this love to ourself with self forgiveness for the harm these barriers have perpetuated.

There are a number of ways to participate in ceremony depending on your time and what calls to you.

Here are some things you may need depending on your plan to take part:

Once ceremony opens you want to create time and space that feels sacred for you. This ceremony is offered with a 20 minute video so be sure you have set aside time where you will not be interrupted. You may want to light a candle before you begin as a simple way to leave the routine of your day and enter into ceremony.

Another practice that helps prepare us for ceremony is purification. A simple purification ritual can be created by rubbing your dry hands together with fine sea salt holding the intention of clearing any negativity from your heart. Continue until you feel your hands are clean and clear. As our hands are energetic extensions of our heart, cleansing in this way helps clear our heart. Purification practices are believed to make the heart more pure, empowering the strength of our prayers and intentions. Smudging, floral waters and incense can also be part of a purification ritual.

Before ceremony opens take a moment to pause and reflect. We will be using our relationships to discover where our hearts have become knotted in anger, hatred, pride, greed, jealousy, judgment, blocking the life force of unconditional love or munay through our heart.

Who are you in struggle or conflict with?
Who depletes your energy or makes you feel diminished?
Who do you avoid?
Who tends to bring out the worst in you?

These relationships that we struggle with are our teachers and may include those who have already passed. The energetic cords that hold each other exist beyond time and space. We offer in ceremony the sacred discomfort, pain and struggles of our heart that arise in response to another. We discover the knots in our own heart and make of them a prayer, changing their vibration as we surrender them to Spirit to soften our heart and restore a flow of unconditional love.

There are a number of ways to participate so notice what calls to you:

  • Once ceremony opens a video will be posted on the blog creating an opportunity for us to meet in prayer and ceremony online.
  • Your prayers and intentions will be blown directly into the qintu on the video. This collective prayer holder will be added to the despacho before ceremony closes.
  • You may create your own qintu with 3 bay leaves, small native leaves or flower petals and blow in your prayers which you can bury or burn.
  • A picture of the despacho will be posted which you may print to hold your qintus and make a despacho of your own. Place 4 qintus (12 bay leaves) in a meaningful arrangement and add offerings such as incense, sage, tobacco, herbs, flower petals, grains, sweets or dried fruits to energetically feed your prayers. Fold your despacho into a square and tie closed with ribbon, twine or string. Do not turn your despacho over or shake in any way to keep your intentions undisturbed. Your despacho is then burned or buried.
  • You can blow your personal intentions and prayers into seeds which you plant in potted soil, a garden or somewhere on the Earth.
Once you have finished placing your prayers and intentions in whatever way calls to you, you may listen to the guided meditation Heart of Peace to deepen the sense of munay in your heart and the connection with all that is around you. The meditation lasts about 10 minutes and is wonderful to listen to before dreamtime.

The Despacho will be available and open for ceremony for 3 days starting on April 2oth, the day before the New Moon at 7:30 pm EST, until April 22nd at 7:30 am EST after which it will be offered in a fire ceremony. You can participate during any time the despacho is open. The Despacho will be anchored by the kuyas (stones) of my mesa received during rites and initiations from Shamans in the mountains of Peru.

Our ceremony is supported by the Shamans, Medicine Women, Healers and Priestessess of We the Women. It is simultaneously occurring with a Global Vigil Fire of hundreds of Shamans and Fire Keepers from around the world as they weave a new global tapestry and feed the living giving energy of the circle.

Please share any comments or questions that arise as we create a collective intent to energize and empower the opening of our hearts as we step into ceremony.

Join in ceremony here.

Here are a few things to prepare for our New Moon Despacho as we gather as a virtual community to heal the wounds of lack and scarcity and offer our gratitude for the abundance that already exists in our life. We ceremonially offer our intentions to heal the energetic impressions that have laid a foundation of lack and limitation in our life so our actions may be informed from a well overflowing in prosperity, generosity, compassion and love. There are a number of ways to participate depending on your time and what calls to you.

Here are some things you may need depending on your level of participation:

  • 16 bay leaves, small native leaves or flower petals to make 4 qintus (Read more about qintus on How A Shaman Prays)
  • Fine Sea Salt for Purification
  • Seeds for Planting
  • Potted Soil, Garden or Mother Earth
  • Candle for Creating Sacred Space

Before coming to ceremony, you want to create time and space that feels sacred for you. This is a personal experience so whatever prayers or rituals you have will work. If you have not created sacred space or come to ceremony before, offer a prayer of thanks to the Earth. Reflect on all the blessings the Earth provides in your life. Lighting a candle is a simple way to enter into ceremony. We transition from our ordinary routine and shift to a space that feels sacred.

Once you have created sacred space and performed a purification ritual, take a moment to turn your attention inward. Bring both hands together over your heart center (middle of your chest). Close your eyes. Breathe into your heart. Let your attention rest here as you reflect on the blessings and abundance that already exists in your life. Hold the intention of healing the wounds of scarcity and lack and source from the wellspring of abundance that is our birthright.

What is the highest manifest vision of prosperity?
What does a heart full of abundance feel like?
What might your walk in the world look like if your actions were informed by a heart overflowing in generosity?

This is what we offer in ceremony, surrendering our intent to Spirit.

There are a number of ways to participate so notice what calls to you:

  • This is the first ceremony that will be offered with a video.
  • Once ceremony opens a video will be posted on the blog creating an opportunity for us to meet in prayer online.
  • Your prayers and intentions will be blown directly into the qintu on the video. This collective prayer holder will be added to the despacho before ceremony closes.
  • You may create your own qintu with 3 bay leaves, small native leaves or flower petals and blow in your prayers which are then buried or burned.
  • A picture of the despacho will be posted which you may print to hold your qintus and make a despacho of your own. Place your qintus in a meaningful arrangement and add offerings such as incense, sage, tobacco, herbs, flower petals, grains, sweets or dried fruits to energetically feed your prayers. Fold your despacho into a square and tie closed with ribbon, twine or string. Do not turn your despacho over or shake in any way to keep your intentions undisturbed. Your despacho is then burned or buried.
  • You can blow your personal intentions and prayers of abundance into seeds which you plant in potted soil, a garden or somewhere on the Earth.
Once you have finished placing your intentions in whatever way calls to you, listen to the guided meditation Attitude of Gratitude. This will awaken a sacred awareness of your body and cultivate a feeling of thanks and appreciation. This takes place while lying on your back. If time is not available at ceremony, listen before dreamtime.

The Despacho will be available and open for ceremony for 3 days starting on March 21st, the day before the New Moon at 7:30 pm EST, until March 23rd at 7:30 am EST after which it will be offered in a fire ceremony. You can participate during any time the despacho is open. The Despacho will be anchored by the kuyas (stones) of my mesa received during rites and initiations from Shamans in the mountains of Peru.

When the needs of the heart go unmet, the pain can be excruciating. In order to cope with feelings that overwhelm or threaten survival, elaborate strategies are constructed to compensate. A common tactic to insure survival is to abandon our own heart in an illusionary attempt to avoid the pain we feel. Maybe if I pretend I have no heart it won’t hurt so much. We lose a part of our vital life force energy. A loss of our Soul occurs.

If we fear that what we need we will not receive, our efforts are used to keep the feelings of our heart under control. We learn to manipulate the emotions of others in order to get what we want, inflict guilt or shame to coerce another to get the love and attention we seek. We learn to smile without any feeling for a false sense of approval. This begins an interplay of how our masculine energy of action and will meets our feminine energy of emotion and feeling.

This coping strategy is similar to a software program in that it downloads information into the hard drive of the physical body. In response to the vibrations of the program, the body will shape itself in a certain way. Anger, bitterness, despair, despondency vibrate at much lower frequencies and create a density in the body as compared to the higher vibrations of love, gratitude and compassion. If we are attempting to control our rage or sorrow, enormous tensions are required in muscles and tissues to restrain these energies and keep them from flowing. Constrictions may be noted in and around the heart, chest and jaw. Our movements may be become stiff or painful. The energy demands required to keep ineffective coping strategies running are tremendous and place excessive strain on our organs. All systems in our body are affected; digestion, respiratory, immune, musculoskeletal. These tensions and knots that initially serve to suppress pain in our body and numb what we are feeling ultmately become perpetrators to the pain they are looking to avoid.

We are often blind to the awareness that these programs are even running.

When we step into ceremony we are essentially updating our software progams. We are setting in motion, through our intention and work with the divine intelligence of Spirit, different programs that are ultimately downloaded into our physical body. Our body begins to restructure itself to organize around this new information. This is not always comfortable. We are birthing into the unknown. And like any birth it can come with pain. You may notice aches, pains or stiffness that arise out of nowhere, and just as randomly disappear. Disturbances of sleep and digestion can be common. Having a physical practice is so supportive, especially during this time of rebalancing. Any practice that uses intentional movement or integrates energy with movement of the physical body, such as yoga, tai chi, dance, martial arts, is so important with ceremony work because we are ultimately affecting changes in the physical body.

The healing tonic of a walk in Nature cannot be underestimated.

Emotional and mental agitations may increase as energy moves and shifts. Meditation is essential to help bring stillness to these waters. It allows us to ride these waves of turbulence as a witness rather than being swallowed whole and consumed by them. Diva Carla, Sacred Lodge Sister of We the Women, is generously sharing two healing meditations for women and men taking part in the New Moon Sacred Union Despacho. These rituals support your process of integration and are resources for sexual empowerment. For women she offers the recording of a Women’s Self-Love Ritual connecting a woman to her Sacred Feminine Power Source at the center of the Wheel of Life. For Men she offers the gift of the King’s Self-Love meditation, which connects a man to his inner masculine fire, the archetypes of Mars and Jupiter and the relationship to the Sacred Feminine. There is medicine for women to hear the men’s meditation and for men to also hear the women’s meditation. Give yourself the gift of these meditations as you integrate the powerful work of this ceremony.

Let us recognize not only the sacredness of ceremonial work but the divine interconnection this creates with all of our being, especially the divine temple in which we reside.

A dear friend held an art reception recently called “Love Letters” showing local artist’s interpretations on the theme of love and honoring the days when the hand-penned letter was a form for expressing love. I have been on a personal quest of the very same theme while I sit with the intention of integrating the Sacred Feminine and the Sacred Masculine within. These aspects meet in the heart and ultimately merge on the waves of love. Pieces of this discovery were expressed in my blog post “Love Ramblings”.

Collage of Love Ramblings

Collage of Love Ramblings

The day before the exhibit, while walking in the woods, the idea came to submit something to the show. Funny since I am not an artist. So for that reason I decided to take action. It was an edge, a limited way of thinking about myself. From the ramblings of my blog post I created a collage on a piece of cardstock, one side blank, the other covered in white glitter. Art can show us something in a new way and when the art is something we create ourself, the vision can be profound. What I got to see were two very different expressions of love. One, a Soul tortured in love, words serving as a bandaid to make sense of confusion. The other, a luminescent shimmer, transparent and clear.

As art reflects life, I see my attachments to both dimensions in love yet the truth resides in neither. So I offer this art to ceremony. To transcend my attachment to the tortured soul and my clinging to the luminous.
