Here are a few things to prepare for our New Moon Despacho as we gather as a virtual community to heal the wounds of lack and scarcity and offer our gratitude for the abundance that already exists in our life. We ceremonially offer our intentions to heal the energetic impressions that have laid a foundation of lack and limitation in our life so our actions may be informed from a well overflowing in prosperity, generosity, compassion and love. There are a number of ways to participate depending on your time and what calls to you.

Here are some things you may need depending on your level of participation:

  • 16 bay leaves, small native leaves or flower petals to make 4 qintus (Read more about qintus on How A Shaman Prays)
  • Fine Sea Salt for Purification
  • Seeds for Planting
  • Potted Soil, Garden or Mother Earth
  • Candle for Creating Sacred Space

Before coming to ceremony, you want to create time and space that feels sacred for you. This is a personal experience so whatever prayers or rituals you have will work. If you have not created sacred space or come to ceremony before, offer a prayer of thanks to the Earth. Reflect on all the blessings the Earth provides in your life. Lighting a candle is a simple way to enter into ceremony. We transition from our ordinary routine and shift to a space that feels sacred.

Another practice that helps prepare us for ceremony is purification. A simple purification ritual can be created by rubbing your dry hands together with fine sea salt holding the intention of clearing any negativity from your heart. Continue until you feel your hands are clean and clear. As our hands are energetic extensions of our heart, cleansing in this way helps clear our heart. Purification practices are believed to make the heart more pure, empowering the strength of our prayers and intentions. Smudging, floral waters and incense can also be part of a purification ritual.

Once you have created sacred space and performed a purification ritual, take a moment to turn your attention inward. Bring both hands together over your heart center (middle of your chest). Close your eyes. Breathe into your heart. Let your attention rest here as you reflect on the blessings and abundance that already exists in your life. Hold the intention of healing the wounds of scarcity and lack and source from the wellspring of abundance that is our birthright.

What is the highest manifest vision of prosperity?
What does a heart full of abundance feel like?
What might your walk in the world look like if your actions were informed by a heart overflowing in generosity?

This is what we offer in ceremony, surrendering our intent to Spirit.

There are a number of ways to participate so notice what calls to you:

  • This is the first ceremony that will be offered with a video.
  • Once ceremony opens a video will be posted on the blog creating an opportunity for us to meet in prayer online.
  • Your prayers and intentions will be blown directly into the qintu on the video. This collective prayer holder will be added to the despacho before ceremony closes.
  • You may create your own qintu with 3 bay leaves, small native leaves or flower petals and blow in your prayers which are then buried or burned.
  • A picture of the despacho will be posted which you may print to hold your qintus and make a despacho of your own. Place your qintus in a meaningful arrangement and add offerings such as incense, sage, tobacco, herbs, flower petals, grains, sweets or dried fruits to energetically feed your prayers. Fold your despacho into a square and tie closed with ribbon, twine or string. Do not turn your despacho over or shake in any way to keep your intentions undisturbed. Your despacho is then burned or buried.
  • You can blow your personal intentions and prayers of abundance into seeds which you plant in potted soil, a garden or somewhere on the Earth.
Once you have finished placing your intentions in whatever way calls to you, listen to the guided meditation Attitude of Gratitude. This will awaken a sacred awareness of your body and cultivate a feeling of thanks and appreciation. This takes place while lying on your back. If time is not available at ceremony, listen before dreamtime.

The Despacho will be available and open for ceremony for 3 days starting on March 21st, the day before the New Moon at 7:30 pm EST, until March 23rd at 7:30 am EST after which it will be offered in a fire ceremony. You can participate during any time the despacho is open. The Despacho will be anchored by the kuyas (stones) of my mesa received during rites and initiations from Shamans in the mountains of Peru.

Please share any comments or questions that arise as we create a collective intent to energize and empower our becoming as we step into ceremony.

AHO my friends! AHO!

I was not planning on a ceremony when I entered the woods today but that is what happened. My heart has been heavy with grief over the past few months as many things have been swept clean from my life. Lately it felt like I was coming to the other side but this morning there it was again. My heart heavy with sorrow and tears.

A walk in a nearby woods is a daily tonic. Shortly after entering this sweet nature preserve near my home (I live in the suburbs of NYC where nature is carefully doled out in parcels) a small stone seemed to light up in front of me. I picked it up and began praying. This way of praying by blowing my breath into a stone is not the way I grew up praying but one I have learned from the Shamans of Peru. This way of praying has changed my life and shaped my Soul.

I hold the stone with an endearing gratitude for taking this heavy, dense energy, or hucha from me. I spend the next half hour or so walking through the woods, blowing my breath, and my prayers into the stone, emptying the hucha of my heart. Prayers are sent by exhaling into the stone with intention. I ask the stone to hold the energetic impressions that inform my body with this grief, the patterns that have been laid down in my DNA, my cellular essence. As I keep blowing and holding an intention of clearing, tears come and tears go. Other sensations arise. Another awareness of what needs to be emptied comes through. Everything is offered to the stone. Everything is a prayer. And everything is held in gratitude.

A man made jetty stretches into the water. For all the years I have walked here I have never ventured out. Today I do. To release the stone as deeply to the water as I can, to be cleansed and purified. It is a bit cold and a bit windy this February afternoon but the sun is shining. There is some trepidation climbing over the rocks but this effort is part of the offering, part of the exchange with Spirit.

At the jetty’s end the rock is thrown into the water with such love for the cleansing the waters offer. Thank you Mama Cocha for washing clean my sorrows. Thank you to the waters for washing me clean.

I lower myself to sit in the rocks, face turned to the Sun. Thank you to our nearest Star for informing my luminous body, informing my cellular body, informing my DNA with your light. Thank you for penetrating the darkness so my heart and mind may awaken.

Immersed in the elements I come into balance. Earth. Water. Fire. Air. I have been hollowed out a bit more deeply.

I share this not so much as a recipe for ceremony but rather as an invitation to trust the conversations with Spirit, the guidance from Nature.

For these gestures are the conversation.

These actions deepen our trust.

I did not plan a ceremony today. I have never done a ceremony exactly this way before. And this ceremony will not repeat itself in just this way again.

Is there a ceremony in your heart today?

AHO my friends! AHO!

Here are a few things to prepare for our New Moon Despacho as we gather as a virtual community to harmonize and integrate our Sacred Feminine and Sacred Masculine. We ceremonially offer our intentions to bring Sacred Union to heart and mind and plant the seeds of self love so our actions may be informed from our deep knowing and our life may shape itself from the deepest expressions of our heart. Elements of Despacho: The despacho was inspired by the shapeshifting form of the kaleidoscope that holds infinite possibilities for beauty. And so it is with our intentions as they begin as formless intent and manifest in form as a collective beauty. The starfish in the center holds the intention that what we set forth to Great Spirit above may manifest in this Earth plane below, the star existing both above and below. This starfish sits on a bed of tobacco symbolizing the dark of the New Moon and the dark womb of creation where all seeds begin their journey. Rice surrounds the darkness to offer Light and fertility. Licorice pieces point in eight different directions representing both the cardinal (North, South, East, West) and non-cardinal (SW, NW, NE, SE) directions of the medicine wheel holding our intentions in balance. Nuts, grains and seeds create the pattern for our despacho so our intentions are supported on a bed of sustenance and nourishment. The different colors of beans and grains hold the many colors of traditions we come from, the many colors of humanity, for how we weave together our differences creates the beauty.

Once all intentions have been placed in the despacho they will be fed with a variety of offerings before being folded up and tied like a gift. Our ceremonial gift will then be burned in a fire. More will be posted after ceremony.

I offer deep appreciation and gratitude for bringing your prayers to this ceremony, for your prayers empower the prayers of us all.

Here are a few things to prepare for our New Moon Despacho as we gather as a virtual community to ceremonially plant the seeds of our dreams, intentions and visions. There are a number of ways to participate depending on your time and what calls to you.

Here are some things you may need depending on your level of participation:

  • 36 bay leaves, small native leaves or flower petals to make 12 qintus (Read more about qintus on How A Shaman Prays)
  • Fine Sea Salt for Purification
  • Seed of the Soul Journey
  • Seeds
  • Potted Soil, Garden or Earth for planting seeds
  • Candle for Creating Sacred Space

Before coming to ceremony, you want to create time and space that feels sacred for you. This is a personal experience so whatever prayers or rituals you have will work. If you have not created sacred space or come to ceremony before, offer a prayer of thanks to the Earth. Reflect on all the blessings the Earth provides in your life. Lighting a candle is a simple way to enter into ceremony. We transition from our ordinary routine and shift to a space that feels sacred.

Purification practices are believed to make the heart more pure, empowering the strength of our prayers and intentions. Smudging, floral waters and incense can also be part of a purification ritual.

Once you have created sacred space and performed a purification ritual, take a moment to reflect on your intentions for the upcoming year.

What are your dreams and visions?
What is the calling from the seed of your Soul?
What is the highest prayer you hold for our planet? For humanity?
What would the highest manifestation of your Soul feel like?

Place your hands over your heart. Close your eyes as your gaze turns inward. Breathe into your heart as you hold your dreams, visions and seeds of your Soul. This is what you will offer in ceremony surrendering your intent to Spirit.

There are a number of ways to participate so notice what calls to you:

  • If you have joined ceremony online, a qintu with your name will be offered to the despacho with the intention of holding the highest manifestation of your dreams and visions
  • A picture of the despacho will be posted into which you can blow in your intentions, dreams, visions with your exhale, sending them into the image of the despacho with your breath and intent
  • You may blow your intentions into 12 qintus which are then be buried or burned
  • You may print a copy of the despacho to hold qintus and make a despacho of your own. Place your qintus in a meaningful arrangement and add offerings such as incense, sage, tobacco, herbs, flower petals, grains, sweets or dried fruits to energetically feed your prayers. Fold your despacho into a square and tie closed with ribbon, twine or string. Do not turn your despacho over or shake in order to keep your intentions undisturbed. Your despacho is then burned or buried.
  • You can blow the intent of your dreams and visions into seeds which you will then plant in potted soil, a garden or somewhere on the Earth.
Once you have finished placing your intentions in whatever way called to you, listen to the guided meditation Letting Go of Expectations. This is a seated meditation that will help release your attachment to any outcome of how your intentions should manifest, surrendering your intent completely to Spirit.

The Despacho will be available and open for ceremony for 3 days starting on January 22nd, the day before the New Moon at 7:30 pm EST, until January 24th at 7:30 pm EST when it will be offered in a fire ceremony. You can participate on any one of these days. The Despacho will be anchored by the kuyas (stones) of my mesa which I received during rites and initiations with Shamans in the mountains of Peru.

Please share any comments or questions that arise as we create a collective intent to energize and empower each other as we step into ceremony.

The intent for our upcoming ceremony is to plant the seeds of our dreams, visions, intentions and becomings. As we ride the lunar rhythms to darkness, take time to reflect on what intentions serve the calling of your Soul? What seeds of wisdom are ready to be brought forth into the world? Where are you ready to step into your power? What is the biggest dream you have for yourself? For the planet? For humanity?

As we plant these seeds we trust in their potential to grow and blossom. The power of ceremony teaches us to let go of expecting our seeds to look a certain way once they bloom. In ceremony we align our Soul with Spirit, a creative intelligence of the Universe that guides through our intuition. Signs and symbols show us the way. In ceremony we deepen our trust in the mystery of creation.

To help prepare for our first New Moon Despacho of 2012 here are some suggestions for setting intent:

You can certainly hold more than one intent for this despacho. I personally like to set an intention for my year. This year I hold the intention of ease. From my Soul journey I plant a crystal of light. I plant seeds for growing my medicine to step more deeply on my path of service in the world and to be of greater service to this growing virtual community. I plant seeds of light for each and every Soul in this circle so they may blossom fully into their brilliance. I plant seeds for the healing of every heart so we may source from a well so deep in self love it can only spill over to a love for each other and our planet. I plant seeds for the care of our Earth Mother so we may learn to listen more deeply to her wisdom in order to take care of she who has provided all that we need. I plant seeds for the visions and dreams of my daughters as they step forth on to their path of becoming in the world.

These seeds of intention can then be blown into seeds which can be planted in a garden or potted soil. These ceremonial gestures of intent carry much merit. They display a humble dedication that deepens your connection to Spirit. This also serves as a reminder of tending your seeds in both literal and mythic realms.

So what are you ready to plant?

AHO my friends! AHO!

man·tra

1. the repetition of a word or formula, chanted or sung as an incantation or prayer.

Through my work, I have the great privilege of reading the human body with my hands. What I often find through this touch are muscles and tissues that have turned to stone. The divine intelligence of our body is simply responding to what we are telling it. Our body literally shapes itself based on our thoughts.

So what are we telling ourselves to turn our tissues to stone?

I am never enough. Nothing I do matters. What difference does it make? I will never get it right. If anyone really knew me, they would leave. I am so….fill in the blank with any self condemning thought of your choosing. We all do it, running thought loops that lead to self-hatred, self-loathing, severe and harsh judgments that put us in a virtual torture chamber of our own doing.

If hard driving thoughts turn our body to stone, what thoughts release us from the virtual prison?

Just as water has the power to smooth the hardest stone, we too can soften the concrete we have created by repeatedly washing with words of love and the power of forgiveness. We can heal and transform the hardest stone within using the healing waters of mantra.

I love you.

I am sorry.

Please forgive me.

I first heard of the magic of these words through a story about a doctor who healed an entire ward of criminally insane patients using the ancient Hawaiian practice of Hoʻoponopono, the repetition of these words for a mental cleansing that sets the heart right. How can we use this ancient healing art to free us from the mental torment that is turning us to stone?

Step one. AWARENESS. The moment we discover our self tortured loop playing, we are given a tremendous opportunity to break free. In that moment, the endless litany of torture temporarily ceases.

Step two. GRATITUDE. If we notice this loop of self condemnation and continue to berate ourself for being such a bad, spineless, weak human being, we breathe more life force into the very loop we are trying to break. This condemnation is what feeds it. Instead, when we offer our thanks for whatever has made itself known, we shift the relationship away from one of self loathing to one of self acceptance. This begins to soften the stone.

Step three. COMPASSION. Once we have become aware of the loop and softened our stance with gratitude, we now melt further with the words I love you. Self love is the root of our wholeness. Self love fills the insatiable void at the heart of all addiction that seeks for the love it lacks in substances, food, relationships, sex. Self love begins to repair the damage we have created through our harsh, self critical thinking.

Step four. ATONEMENT. Here we recognize our part in this loop. We are not making excuses or blaming anyone else for the way we are treating ourself. I am sorry assumes responsibility for our thoughts, deeds and actions. We step out of the blame game. This is essential. If we continue to place the onus of how we are feeling on something outside of ourself, we remain stuck in stone.

Step five. HEALING. Please forgive me moves us to our healed state. To forever punish ourself keeps us hard as stone. Forgiveness is fundamental to put the loop to rest, once and for all.

When you notice yourself in the midst of habitual responses that leave you stuck, hard as stone, bring the force of these waters. Let this mantra run for a daily mental cleansing. Let the power of these words wash over you, again and again, wearing away stone until a new path emerges. Stone can then serve to build a foundation of strength rather than a fortress of protection.

AHO my friends! AHO!
