In An Ancient Cry of A Lone Wolf I shared a shamanic journey with spirit wolves. An image that has stayed with me is one of a male and female wolf, connected at the third eye in a bow of honor to each other. This image led to a reading of my mesa on the Inner Beloved…

There is a marriage that takes place within. A marriage between the sacred masculine and feminine. We are often unaware of the internal conflict between these aspects of ourself.

There is a clear distinction of the masculine and feminine principles that guide us. One aspect of these qualities is represented in the male heart as the archetype of the king, the non-corrupt warrior power in integrity.

One way this is expressed in the feminine heart is the womb, the vessel for the seeds of creation, the archetype of  the mother, Gaia, Earth Mother, the depths of unconditional offering for all things.

When an aspect of our masculine or feminine is diminished or lacking in some way we will look to fill this up through the relationships we seek and create thereby setting the basis for dysfunction and co-dependency. This is when we rely on someone outside of ourself to fill the void within us. We are in and of ourself complete.

This does not mean we can only enter into relationship once a whole state is achieved. When awareness of the strengths, the weaknesses and the tendencies of how our masculine and feminine are operating within us are known to us, we are able to bring our relationships to higher levels of consciousness. We need to know ourself first. These patterns are often habitual and conditioned leaving us little room for evolution but rather keep us stuck in patterns of relating that bring harm to ourself or another.

The collective feminine is now burgeoning, coming forth in greater fullness and power. This is not to be perceived in any way as a threat to the masculine. This is not ever what the feminine seeks. She does not seek dominion over but rather longs for  union rooted in honor and respect. She longs to give and offer her love and her light freely and asks that the power of her gifts be valued.

What is this foundation of internal sacred union built on?

The full spectrum of expression of both the feminine and the masculine without judgment, without criticism, without belittling, embarrassing, humiliating, shaming. How many of these patterns operate in our current relationships? A trust that both are honored, respected and valued for what is inherently divine within each. A recognition that each is essential to the other so no barrier exists between the flow of these energies within and between.

We move from co-dependency to interdependency. A weaving rather than a wall.

Each seeks freedom now from the repressive chains that have bound both the masculine and the feminine and shaped them into limited and conditioned expressions that have not served either by meeting in their diminished capacities. It is the healing of the sacred union within each individual, the sacred marriage that begins to take place within the heart, the mind and the soul of each person, regardless of gender, that will begin to create a new paradigm on Earth.

There is a flow and a listening required within our own heart. A bowing and reverence to our inherent sacred gifts expressed through the masculine and feminine of who we are. A presence and an attention of the masculine naturally fosters an appreciation from the feminine.

From the heart of the feminine emerges beauty, not in the way it has been packaged and served to us. Beauty as seeing a sacredness in all things. A sacredness of life. Creation of sacred rituals. Beauty  as an empty vessel that allows the divine to flow through. A beauty in the heart that sees all as beauty.

The feminine also emerges as the erotic, sensual, undomesticated Goddess. The wild and untamed power of intuitive wisdom, the visionary bestowed with psychic gifts. These are the heights and depths through which the feminine expresses herself.

The masculine offers direction, a purpose and focus that creates a sense of moving towards. There is a passing of knowledge and transmission of wisdom from one generation to the next, from one person to another that the masculine expresses through words, intellect and by creating community of the highest order of the heart, the divine kingdom.

The masculine speaks in stillness. He moves in silence not only in the direction of moving forward but also in the direction of depth.

The feminine moves in cycles, through flow, through dance, through non-linear patterns.

In sacred union the value of both stillness and dance are revered.

Our greatest power resides in deep humility, no longer falling prey to the seduction of our ego. Black obsidian sits at the very bottom of this alignment pointing to our infinite depths that transcend all duality, even our masculine and feminine. The way of the sacred path that opens the portal to the vast void of the unknown, where all energy is consolidated in the black hole of the deepest mysteries.

This is what the kuyas speak.

At the heart of our despacho sits the tiny and humble acorn to hold the intention of awakening the seeds of our becoming. This month I had the great fortune to visit Isis Cove, an intentional community and retreat center on 45+ acres of unspoiled land in the magical, beautiful, blue mountains of western North Carolina.

If you would like to add your prayers and intentions to this month’s despacho follow the ceremonial video below from the early morning woods at Isis Cove. Find a time and space free from distraction. Create sacred space. The simple act of lighting a candle can transport us from our day-to-day routine to a moment of the sacred.

I am grateful to Linda Star Wolf and Brad Collins, the founders, co-directors and visionaries of Isis Cove and the warm welcome that embraced me from each and every Soul I encountered on my short stay there.

As anyone who does healing work knows…you step on to this path because it is you yourself that needs healing. For me I didn’t just step on to a healing path, I hit the ground running.

I started smoking at 11 years old. Fifteen years later as I entered school for Physical Therapy my habit was up to two packs a day. Although I made many attempts to stop it was stepping into a healing profession that helped me finally call it quits. How could I help others heal their body if I could not help myself? So I started running. A few years later I finished the NYC marathon in 3 1/2 hours. I awoke to the healing wisdom of the body.

My personal healing has intimately intertwined with my work in the world. I shifted beyond the borders of traditional Physical Therapy as my work became strongly influenced by my personal evolution in Thai massage, yoga, meditation, breathwork, shamanism. My work had traversed far from my roots leaving me with an identity crisis of sorts. Most people came to see me through the western medical system. There was some understanding of what to expect when going to see a physical therapist. What I often heard was this is not what I thought physical therapy was going to be like at all. I struggled to define my work through the confines of physical therapy that gave me a license I could rely on to bring me income. A simple equation of risk versus security.

A pivotal question posed by a mentor pushed me further into the unknown. How do you intend to bring your wisdom into the world? Spirit nudged even stronger. I began offering ceremonies online breaking free from the spiritual closet where most of my work remained hidden. The ceremonies caught the attention of Melissa McNair, co-director of Feathered Pipe. The message left on my voicemail one day was nothing short of a divine calling. Would I be interested in weaving ritual and ceremony during the Empowerment Camp at Feathered Pipe? Spirit opened a public portal to step into the role of a medicine woman. All I had to do was walk through.

A sacred assemblage of souls gathered in June. In the deep beauty of Montana our most courageous hearts stretched wide weaving the dark of the New Moon with the light of the Summer Solstice. Held in the incubating elements of Pachamama; water, earth, fire, air, it became very clear we were in a deep process of birthing. As we breathed the holy breath, journeyed to the womb in a consecrated cave, we prayed, we laughed, we screamed, we cried, we sang, we danced, we healed, we birthed.

Through the magic of Feathered Pipe we emerged anew.

A personal pachakuti, or cycle of time, had come to an end. An initiation that began some 25 years earlier. The completion of one cycle meant the start of another. A medicine woman birthed into the world. A birth of the soul pouring forth from the heart. A heart that has lived long enough to have itself torn apart. A heart whose essence holds the power to endure.

I came to see how I had shaped my work to be less than in a western model of medicine that had no space for Spirit. What I was shaping was the voice of the Sacred Feminine, diminished by culture, conditioned through belief systems, science, religion, ancestors and wounds in an attempt to thwart her power. The earliest voice of my feminine was manipulated by a masculine determined to keep dominion over a home ruled by alcohol. The light of my truth could not hold a gaze to the blind eye of booze.

This external power play of masculine domination over a suppressed feminine internalized itself twisting my voice in self-doubt. Is what I see real? What I feel true? My body armored itself against her sovereign flow of feeling. The dark, tangled mess of emotions were deemed worthless, abandoned to deep recesses of heart and soul. Mind, steel sharp control and all that was rational served as the hallmark to success.

The voice of my internal masculine thwarted my power, belittled my feelings and abolished my needs. My worth was measured in doing. What certificate or letter I could place next to my name marked my accomplishments as if my very own existence required some stamp of approval from an authority outside of myself.

The ruling tyranny of a masculine dominated inner world has seen its end, within me and around me. It is the sacred feminine that is resurrecting now. There is no diploma to mark this passage. No letters to place after my name. Spirit is the teacher. Life is the initiation. Suffering is the school.

The external voices of oppression still exist. The ones that believe the notion of a medicine woman means I have completely lost my mind. It is not up to me to change those voices but rather to find the courage within so the voice that diminishes has no power over me. The voice that belittles what it cannot understand is no longer relevant in my life.

It is time for both the masculine and feminine to rise, to dance within in ways never before seen thereby shifting the way we move in the world.

“I remember being told by a medicine woman in the Amazon,
Do you know why they are really cutting down the rain forest?
Because it is wet and dark and tangled and feminine.”
Alberto Villoldo

The voice of the Sacred Feminine has shaped her way through each one of us by our culture, conditioning, belief systems, religion, ancestors and wounds in an attempt to thwart her power. Our fear of her force has driven us to keep a lid on our feelings while we cut down rain forests.

As a child truth was clear yet my voice was manipulated by a masculine determined to keep dominion over a home ruled by alcohol. The light of truth was unable to stare in the blind eye of booze.

This pattern internalized itself twisting my voice in self-doubt. Is what I see real? What I feel true? My body armored itself against her sovereign flow of feeling. The dark, tangled mess of emotions were deemed worthless, abandoned to deep recesses of heart and soul. Mind, control and all that is rational served as the hallmark to success.

In her diminished expression my feminine could only encounter the diminished masculine. Intimate relationships danced in a painful tango with men who could not show up, refused to be seen, wavered in committment.

In the ’70’s Helen Reddy roared the feminine anthem “I Am Woman”. With equality on the table the expression of the feminine seemed to shape itself into a masculine form still unable to see the breadth of her dark and tangled power. Equal pay for equal work constricted the essence of the feminine in a box way too small for her majesty.

The feminine voice arising now is distinctly differentiated from the masculine. The voice is birthing as if for the first time yet emerging from primordial roots through eons of time and space. Her voice holds fierce truth that cannot keep quiet. She has seen too much. Suffered too long.

Dark. Messy. Tangled. Wet. Wildly and ecstatically feminine.

Her worth is the depth of her feeling. The force of her presence. The radiance of her Love in all its expressions. Her fierce truth can make you squirm. Her blinding light unveils shadows.

The prophecies call now for the ending of an era, a passage into a new pachakuti marked by an evolution of consciousness. Primal powers that have lain dormant are awakening within. Our feminine voice is rising.

In our delusion spirituality consists only of Light. For our ascension to Light, our ascension in Love is met by the depths we traverse in darkness. Our perception heightens in darkness. Through darkness every seed takes pilgrimage. It is the dark and tangled feminine matrix that is restructuring within.

How does the masculine now shape itself to meet this emerging feminine both within us and around us? Old strategies of control and domination are no longer viable, in personal relationship nor in the world. A new world order is upon us.

This is the evolutionary work we have come to do. How we hold the Sacred Feminine and Sacred Masculine through a dance of partnership will blaze the trail of our dawning. A dawning where each is empowered by the other in order to rise to the most divine aspects of our becoming.

The birthing of the feminine in all her glorious forms and expressions is upon us.

She does not seek domination over the masculine.

Nor does she wish to be masculine.

She is ready to take her seat.

Upon her rightful throne.

Of worship.

“Our task is not to seek for love,
but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself
that you have built against it.”
Rumi ~

Here are a few things to prepare for our New Moon Despacho as we gather as a virtual community to unravel the knots of our heart that block the flow of unconditional love or what shamans call munay. We ceremonially offer these barriers to restore our hearts to munay so we may right our relationships to others, to Pachamama, to Spirit, to our own Soul. We bring this love to ourself with self forgiveness for the harm these barriers have perpetuated.

There are a number of ways to participate in ceremony depending on your time and what calls to you.

Artist Stephanie Gagne

Here are some things you may need depending on your plan to take part:

Once ceremony opens you want to create time and space that feels sacred for you. This ceremony is offered with a 20 minute video so be sure you have set aside time where you will not be interrupted. You may want to light a candle before you begin as a simple way to leave the routine of your day and enter into ceremony.

Another practice that helps prepare us for ceremony is purification. A simple purification ritual can be created by rubbing your dry hands together with fine sea salt holding the intention of clearing any negativity from your heart. Continue until you feel your hands are clean and clear. As our hands are energetic extensions of our heart, cleansing in this way helps clear our heart. Purification practices are believed to make the heart more pure, empowering the strength of our prayers and intentions. Smudging, floral waters and incense can also be part of a purification ritual.

Before ceremony opens take a moment to pause and reflect. We will be using our relationships to discover where our hearts have become knotted in anger, hatred, pride, greed, jealousy, judgment, blocking the life force of unconditional love or munay through our heart.

Who are you in struggle or conflict with?
Who depletes your energy or makes you feel diminished?
Who do you avoid?
Who tends to bring out the worst in you?

These relationships that we struggle with are our teachers and may include those who have already passed. The energetic cords that hold each other exist beyond time and space. We offer in ceremony the sacred discomfort, pain and struggles of our heart that arise in response to another. We discover the knots in our own heart and make of them a prayer, changing their vibration as we surrender them to Spirit to soften our heart and restore a flow of unconditional love.

There are a number of ways to participate so notice what calls to you:

  • Once ceremony opens a video will be posted on the blog creating an opportunity for us to meet in prayer and ceremony online.
  • Your prayers and intentions will be blown directly into the qintu on the video. This collective prayer holder will be added to the despacho before ceremony closes.
  • You may create your own qintu with 3 bay leaves, small native leaves or flower petals and blow in your prayers which you can bury or burn.
  • A picture of the despacho will be posted which you may print to hold your qintus and make a despacho of your own. Place 4 qintus (12 bay leaves) in a meaningful arrangement and add offerings such as incense, sage, tobacco, herbs, flower petals, grains, sweets or dried fruits to energetically feed your prayers. Fold your despacho into a square and tie closed with ribbon, twine or string. Do not turn your despacho over or shake in any way to keep your intentions undisturbed. Your despacho is then burned or buried.
  • You can blow your personal intentions and prayers into seeds which you plant in potted soil, a garden or somewhere on the Earth.
Once you have finished placing your prayers and intentions in whatever way calls to you, you may listen to the guided meditation Heart of Peace to deepen the sense of munay in your heart and the connection with all that is around you. The meditation lasts about 10 minutes and is wonderful to listen to before dreamtime.

The Despacho will be available and open for ceremony for 3 days starting on April 2oth, the day before the New Moon at 7:30 pm EST, until April 22nd at 7:30 am EST after which it will be offered in a fire ceremony. You can participate during any time the despacho is open. The Despacho will be anchored by the kuyas (stones) of my mesa received during rites and initiations from Shamans in the mountains of Peru.

Our ceremony is supported by the Shamans, Medicine Women, Healers and Priestessess of We the Women. It is simultaneously occurring with a Global Vigil Fire of hundreds of Shamans and Fire Keepers from around the world as they weave a new global tapestry and feed the living giving energy of the circle.

Please share any comments or questions that arise as we create a collective intent to energize and empower the opening of our hearts as we step into ceremony.

Join in ceremony here.

Elements of Despacho: A golden chalice was the inspiration for this despacho. The starfish that sits at the center holds our intention to heal the wounds of lack and scarcity and align with abundance. It symbolizes above, the stars in heaven where our intentions are set, and below, so they may manifest in form on Earth. Lots of gold sparkles were sprinkled throughout to align with abundance. The chalice symbolizes our abundance as an empty vessel. By being empty we are able to receive. What gets in the way of receiving are the dense, heavy energies, or hucha, of lack, limitation and scarcity. Shedding these wounds clears our golden chalice and allows us to be a container of Light and Love rather than lack and limitation.

The stem of the chalis is rooted in Earth and sits on a bed of money representing manifesting abundance in material form. Placed along the dollars are small magnets to attract what we need into our lives as vessels of receptivity rather than struggling to try and make things happen. At the very base of the stem sits a clay statue of Lakshmi. In the Hindu tradition she is the Goddess of Prosperity and Wealth in all dimensions, spiritual to material. We draw inspiration from all traditions.

White flowers are placed on top of white feathers that sit like a halo holding our chalice and informing it with light. May we hold an empty golden chalice in our heart so we may be receptors for Light. It is the abundance of this Light that will manifest abundance in form on our Earth plane.

Offerings and qintus will be placed in the despacho during the time it is open. Ceremony will close Friday morning, March 23rd EST at 7:30 am when our despacho, full of prayers and offerings, will be folded and tied like a gift. A forgotten prayer holder will be tied to the outside. Our ceremonial gift will then be burned in a fire. More will be posted after ceremony.

I offer deep appreciation and gratitude for bringing your prayers to this ceremony, for your prayers empower the prayers of us all.

Here are a few things to prepare for our New Moon Despacho as we gather as a virtual community to heal the wounds of lack and scarcity and offer our gratitude for the abundance that already exists in our life. We ceremonially offer our intentions to heal the energetic impressions that have laid a foundation of lack and limitation in our life so our actions may be informed from a well overflowing in prosperity, generosity, compassion and love. There are a number of ways to participate depending on your time and what calls to you.

Here are some things you may need depending on your level of participation:

  • 16 bay leaves, small native leaves or flower petals to make 4 qintus (Read more about qintus on How A Shaman Prays)
  • Fine Sea Salt for Purification
  • Seeds for Planting
  • Potted Soil, Garden or Mother Earth
  • Candle for Creating Sacred Space

Before coming to ceremony, you want to create time and space that feels sacred for you. This is a personal experience so whatever prayers or rituals you have will work. If you have not created sacred space or come to ceremony before, offer a prayer of thanks to the Earth. Reflect on all the blessings the Earth provides in your life. Lighting a candle is a simple way to enter into ceremony. We transition from our ordinary routine and shift to a space that feels sacred.

Once you have created sacred space and performed a purification ritual, take a moment to turn your attention inward. Bring both hands together over your heart center (middle of your chest). Close your eyes. Breathe into your heart. Let your attention rest here as you reflect on the blessings and abundance that already exists in your life. Hold the intention of healing the wounds of scarcity and lack and source from the wellspring of abundance that is our birthright.

What is the highest manifest vision of prosperity?
What does a heart full of abundance feel like?
What might your walk in the world look like if your actions were informed by a heart overflowing in generosity?

This is what we offer in ceremony, surrendering our intent to Spirit.

There are a number of ways to participate so notice what calls to you:

  • This is the first ceremony that will be offered with a video.
  • Once ceremony opens a video will be posted on the blog creating an opportunity for us to meet in prayer online.
  • Your prayers and intentions will be blown directly into the qintu on the video. This collective prayer holder will be added to the despacho before ceremony closes.
  • You may create your own qintu with 3 bay leaves, small native leaves or flower petals and blow in your prayers which are then buried or burned.
  • A picture of the despacho will be posted which you may print to hold your qintus and make a despacho of your own. Place your qintus in a meaningful arrangement and add offerings such as incense, sage, tobacco, herbs, flower petals, grains, sweets or dried fruits to energetically feed your prayers. Fold your despacho into a square and tie closed with ribbon, twine or string. Do not turn your despacho over or shake in any way to keep your intentions undisturbed. Your despacho is then burned or buried.
  • You can blow your personal intentions and prayers of abundance into seeds which you plant in potted soil, a garden or somewhere on the Earth.
Once you have finished placing your intentions in whatever way calls to you, listen to the guided meditation Attitude of Gratitude. This will awaken a sacred awareness of your body and cultivate a feeling of thanks and appreciation. This takes place while lying on your back. If time is not available at ceremony, listen before dreamtime.

The Despacho will be available and open for ceremony for 3 days starting on March 21st, the day before the New Moon at 7:30 pm EST, until March 23rd at 7:30 am EST after which it will be offered in a fire ceremony. You can participate during any time the despacho is open. The Despacho will be anchored by the kuyas (stones) of my mesa received during rites and initiations from Shamans in the mountains of Peru.

Please share any comments or questions that arise as we create a collective intent to energize and empower our becoming as we step into ceremony.
