There was a time in our history when we, as humans, lived in harmony with the rhythm of Nature. We tracked the heavens and followed the guidance of stars. From ancient Wisdomkeepers systems of healing and enlightenment have been mapped for us to follow.

Although we may have lost touch with lunar cycles and bemoan the force of Nature when it interferes with our own, we are still intimately woven into the mystical matrix of Heaven and Earth. As our individual consciousness is entwined within infinite consciousness we have the ability to source and create from this ancient portal of wisdom. One such tool to open that portal is the shaman’s mesa.

A shaman’s mesa is used for healing, divination, prayer and ceremony. A mesa deepens the awareness of non-ordinary states of reality. It is a spiritual anchor that keeps us grounded. Building a personal mesa is a journey of transformation that will deepen your connection to Mother Earth and heighten awareness to the rhythms and cycles of your own true Nature.

I am honored and humbled to share this first ever Mesa Building Journey with you as called by the Santa Tierras, the ancient feminine Spirits of the land. Each journey will take place over 40 days throughout each of Nature’s seasons. You are welcome to participate in one or all four seasons as you are called.

Our first journey will begin in Winter on January 10, 2015 and run until February 20th.

During this 40 day cycle you will receive all of the teachings, practices and information listed below by weekly emails. The group will close with ceremony on February 20th however you are free to continue with the process taking as much time as needed allowing you to work at a pace that suits your schedule and lifestyle.

Some of the practices are sequential in nature, meaning you will need to complete one before moving on to the next, but that will be included when you receive your emails each week.

We begin building our mesa by discovering a stone or kuya. These will be found in Nature or you may already have a stone or crystal you want to work with. Through a heart centered meditation we will set a personal intention to be held in our kuyas to guide us through this 40 day cycle.

I will open our journey with a despacho or prayer offering to align our intentions with the wisdom of Winter and call on the guidance of Pachamama and Spirit.

Each week instruction and practices on working with your kuyas will be sent via email in video, audio or written format depending on the information. This allows you to participate on your own time and schedule.

Our Teachings for the Winter Season will include:

  • Setting a Personal Intention to Guide Your Journey
  • Opening Sacred Space
  • Creating an Altar
  • Shamanic Journey to meet a Spirit Ally
  • Clearing and Purification Practices
  • Using Your Kuya for Prayer, Healing and Divination
  • How to Use Your Kuya in Day to Day Life
  • Caring for Your Kuya
  • Kundalini Meditation/Daily Practice
  • Journaling Assignments
  • Personal and Collective Despacho Ceremony

Establishing a daily practice during this time with your kuya and a Kundalini meditation is highly recommended and instruction will be provided. The specific meditation we will use will help release old patterns and habits thereby opening pathways for allowing what we need into our lives.

Space for questions and sharing will be provided through a closed Facebook group and via email. Although we will be working individually, our journey is amplified by the collective like-minded intention of a group, uplifting each other and exponentially increasing the power of our individual process.

If you are in Northern New Mexico, we will open our journey by gathering on Saturday, January 10, 2015 to meet our kuyas in an arroyo in Abiquiu where few travel. This journey began through the stones gifted to me in this very same place.

Registration for the 40 day online course in the Winter season is $40.00 through paypal. Your registration insures you receive the weekly curriculum via email. Click here to register.

By making love a human life is conceived. For us mere mortals creation does not get more omnipotent than that!

An egg and sperm unite and our physical being begins to form yet we are also beings of light. There is a merging of light that happens at the moment of conception as well.

One of the things we learn from the shamans of the Andes on our women’s journey to Peru are the teachings on Light. And none is more powerful than the Light of creation.

For women, a silver cord of light runs through the central channel of our body. For men it is gold. As we merge with our lovers our bodies become full of light. During orgasm, an alchemy of silver and gold creates violet, the light of creation. At this moment we are elevated to God and Goddess in a sacred and powerful dance of creation.

When we understand creation at this dimension of light we hold the power to birth not just human life but our dreams, our visions, our destiny, through this sacred alchemy.

So how do we remember the Gods and Goddesses we are? How can our lovemaking be a portal to our visions?

Your beloved is the most magnificent mirror you have. As you sit across from each other, begin by looking, really looking into the eyes of your lover. Know all that you see, all that you feel is a reflection of the Divine. Allow your heart to hold everything that arises. See and be seen. Love is a lover of all that is be it sorrow, bliss. pleasure, pain.

Let your breath sync, jaw soft, mouth open, in and out together.

Each partner take a turn slowly circling your fingertips, ever so lightly, around the nipples of your partner, building up the sexual energy. Once your partner begins to feel aroused draw that energy down the front of their body in slow circles from the nipples to the genitals. Place your hand over their sex organs and hold still as you continue to gaze and breathe.

As you hold your partners genitals, let them know how much you appreciate them in your life. Let them know what you love most about them. Now let your partner take their turn with you.

Let this ritual be an offering of your heart to your lover and to the Divine. Let this be a time to set an intention to love more deeply. To open your heart wider than ever before. To give and receive pleasure in ways never before imagined.

Let your lovemaking be an offering. Let your love ripple in waves to reach those you love. Let your love be offered to heal those in need. Let the love you generate be of benefit to the world.

I asked my beloved to write a prayer for this piece. His prayers take me straight to God. I offer this as an invocation or as inspiration for lovemaking. A prayer to remember the divine God and Goddess you are. To call upon the power of creation through the sacred dance of your holy union each time you make love.

There is only One.
One Power. One Being. One Source….right here, right now.
Existing within us….through us…as us.
Thank you Great Spirit.
Thank you for this gift of life.
Thank you for the breath we breathe.
Thank you for our heartbeat…one heartbeat.
Thank you for eyes that see, and hands that touch.
Great Spirit, Spirit of the Universe. Use us…use us a channel of your Peace, your Love, and your Light.
Let your breath be our breath.
Let your heartbeat be our heartbeat.
Let your eyes be our eyes.
Let your hand be our hands.
Let your words be our words.
Let there be peace.
Let the peace in our hearts be the peace of the world.
Let there be love.
May the love in our hearts be the love of the world.
Let there be light.
May the light in our eyes be the light of the world.
by Don Black Feather

You are a God and a Goddess. There is no better place to awaken that than in the bedroom.

(Please note…the teachings on light from Dona Aleja, altomesayok and master Q’ero shaman also include teachings of same sex relationships. LBGT are of two spirits and have both silver and gold within making them, in the words of Dona Aleja, special. Many spiritual traditions recognize gay men and women as “two spirits” and they are highly respected and revered. Dona Aleja also says it is important that women know these teachings of light. Women create life, past the age of conception. We must teach women to have this knowledge of light in the moment of creation. Women are the givers of life so they can help to change the world.)

(On another note, the above touch ritual is adapted from “The Nine Flowers Meditation” by Mantak Chia)

coverFor those who follow this blog, or my page on Facebook, you may or may not know A Structure for Spirit is the name of my book. It was written as a guidebook to create a daily spiritual practice. Its first incarnation was as A Success Journal: Daily Practices to Manifest Your Intentions. It was self-published in 2005 along with an audio of guided meditations.

To create a book out of thin air, with nothing more than the ideas in your head, takes quite a bit of fire. And that fire kept me going for a good year after it was written, promoting it through family (oh what I have put them through in my life!), friends and clients. I ran out of steam as the energy invested seemed to show less and less payoff. I abandoned the book to a closet shelf where it began collecting dust for a number of years.

In 2010 I was working with a mentor who asked me, “How do you intend to bring your wisdom to the world?” Well I never gave it much thought until then but my book in the closet came to mind. After a series of synchronistic events it seemed time to pull the book down from the shelf.

I have had a daily practice for a very long time so what need did I have for a book to help create a daily practice? In the words of my mentor, “You’re blowing past your own medicine.”

I finally became a student of my own book. My father had recently died. My beloved had left me leaving my heart shattered to pieces. A period of isolating loneliness engulfed me.

The book landed in perfect and divine timing. It transformed and so did I. Everything changed, including the name. (Well my name stayed the same.)

Balboa Press became the new self publishing agaency. By this time Facebook was invented. I started a page. Nearly 9000 likes. The fire returned.

Keeping up with writing blogs and posting on Facebook is a full-time job, especially since I have never considered myself to be a writer. My entire life has been in healthcare and healing. My full-time job demands much of my time so for the second time I felt myself abandon the book as the dividends diminished.

THE COCA LEAF READING

On May 10th I arrived in Peru for the fourth time. I had a coca leaf reading my first day there. Shamans use coca leaves for divination the way one might use tarot cards or tea leaves. The coca leaves are prayed into and then thrown onto a sacred cloth.

“Did you write a book?” asked Don Andreas. I should not have been shocked but with wide-eyed awe I said, “Yes” while thinking “Oh no, here we go again with the book.”

“Well you have to make it bigger. You have to include more of what you have learned on your journeys here in Peru. You are like a farmer planting seeds that others in the future may harvest. This wisdom is not your own. It must be shared.”

This message seemed to reverberate louder than ever during our last journey to Peru. Share. Teach. Remove all doubt. Go forth with confidence.

I do not know how and I do not know when but the leaves have been thrown and it is time to grow bigger. I have been assured that the Apus will help me. With this entry I make myself accountable. A request to Spirit for guidance. To remember it is not about “me”. There is nothing that is “mine”. This remembering helps me to get out of my own way. Remove the self-inflicted obstacles created by doubt as another sacred birth is about to begin.

Harvesting Quinoa at Amura Village during our Women's Journey to Peru, May 2013

Harvesting Quinoa at Amaru Village during our Women’s Journey to Peru, May 2013

The shamans of the high Andes dedicate the first twelve days of August to honoring Pachamama and dreaming the world into being for the year ahead, a time known as Pachamama Days in Peru. The 1st of August represents August 2014, the 2nd, September 2014 and so on, with the 12th being July 2014. Days are filled with people offering despachos to Pachamama, sweets and flowers in gratitude for her gifts of harvest as they prepare the soils for the next seeds.

Even if we are not in Peru we can use these energies to connect more deeply to Mother Earth and be mindful of what we are creating. Can we listen more deeply to what needs tending? What needs clearing?

Spend time each day in meditation, contemplation. Journal. Create intention. Make offerings to the Earth, to the waters. Be mindful of spending time in nature. What arises by listening, by turning in?

Inspired by the Pachamama Days of Peru, let us imagine a world.

I invite you to write below what you imagine a world to be. Let us create a collective prayer to offer in ceremony. Your prayers will be written on violet paper, the color of creation, and added to a despacho that I will create and share later in the Pachamama days.

I imagine a world where each day we greet Pachamama with a song, a song that rises from our love for our Mother Earth, a song that sings our gratitude to her.

How would the vibration of our world change if each and every soul sang the song of their heart? It is through imagining we create a new world.

May we open our ceremony with a song to our Beloved Mother. This song was birthed by Tracey St. John at Empowerment Camp on June 20th at Feathered Pipe Ranch this summer. I have not stopped singing it since. Click on the picture below to hear the song and sing along!

I bow in gratitude for adding your voice,
your prayer to our collective vision.

May generations to come be able to look back
and say thank you for what we are creating today.

Tibetan Singing Bowl

We offer our collective hearts to Spirit.
We let go of the attachment of how our visions and dreams

will manifest in the kaypacha.
We cultivate trust in the divine order.
We surrender to the great mystery
so we are no longer guided by the voices of fear,
the limiting belief systems
and old paradigms that have laid false imprints in our minds.
We deepen our connection to Nature
and open the channels to Spirit
as we fearlessly step into the guidance
that is so willingly offered to us.

AHO!

The Feathered Pipe glow post ceremony with Heidi Bixler

We prayed our way to the meadow as shamans of the high Andes; blowing our prayers into aspen leaves at Feathered Pipe Ranch in Montana. Sitting in silence with Pachamama we waited for her wisdom to speak through us. An echo sparked a spontaneous toning, our voices reverberating with Creation.

The echo amplified throughout our week at Empowerment Camp. Drumming and rattling at every ceremony awakened each voice to discover sounds never before heard.

Our last day was full in ceremony. My morning began picking baby aspen leaves that had fallen in the labyrinth for our despacho later that afternoon. I brought them into the lodge where Tracey St. John was practicing yoga. I pulled out my sheepskin and joined her in silence. Each of us following our unique rhythm of breath, waking energy with moving muscles and vibrating sounds.

As Tracey finished I listened in awe as this lullaby to the Mother was birthed. A flow of grace moved through her that morning as a gift to the world. This song opened our Despacho ceremony that day and I have not stopped singing it since.

May this song be shared, especially with our Earth Mother.

She loves it when we sing to her.

EARTH MOTHER PRAYER SONG
(Click on the link above to listen to the song)

Dear Earth Mother come to me
Allow me in thy prayers.
May this moment speak to me.
Allow me to prepare.
Come Dear Mother be with me,
The sweat that we partake.
All who enter in your womb
Seek within your grace.
BLESSED MOTHER
Hold this Earth,
The mountains at your feet.
The lake behind us sources us,
The trees keep company.
In this mix may we partake
And taste of your sweet space.
Divinity will come through us,
Today we can embrace.
See as far as you see,
Hear as far as you hear.
Be as far as we can hold
And laugh and sweat and eat.

We started by sweeping the floor.

Our last day at Empowerment Camp was a day of ceremony. A morning Sweat Lodge followed by an afternoon Despacho. The Despacho ceremony comes to us from the shamans of the high Andes in Peru. A feast for Pachamama to bring our nature into right relationship with all of Nature. Julie Daley (one of my co-facilitators at the Empowerment Camp at Feathered Pipe) and I began preparing the space for ceremony…clearing the clutter, sweeping the floor. I laid down an altar cloth of recycled saris. A woven cloth from the Andes was placed on top to hold our Despacho.

4726567_orig

We pulled from the pantry offerings…chocolate chips, rice, quinoa, almonds, raisins, oats and shredded coconut. We have all heard of the awakening of the Divine Feminine at this spiritual threshold on which we now stand. The Dalai Lama has said, “The world will be saved by the Western woman.”

It is because we know this work.

How many women have prepared a Thanksgiving or holiday feast? You know what to do.

You clean the house. You pull your finest china and linens from the closet. Your favorite recipes are saved for these special times. Family and friends gather in celebration. Spirits are lifted. Hearts are nourished.

Women know this work. The work of ceremony. We nourish. We celebrate. We create sacred space full of love.

Ceremony uplifts our hearts. Ceremony carries our prayers and visions to Spirit. In ceremony we begin to see ourselves and each other through the eyes of love. Ceremony is what will carry us over the threshold.

Despacho Candle-8086

Our week to Awaken the Inner Teacher began with an altar. Sacred objects from home and heart were placed on top. Each day our altar blossomed in beauty with flowers, sticks and stones of the Earth. And it was there, on the altar, the intention of our Despacho laid bare.

Our ceremony reflected many different traditions. Saris from India. The Despacho from Peru. Tibetan prayer flags waiting for blessings to be blown in.

The borders erected based on gender, color, race, sexual preference, even the borders that exist between spiritual traditions are misguided and misdirected. Creations of our mind that reflect the collective wound of separation. An illusion. We are not separate. Whatever tradition we walk, whatever the color of our skin or ethnic background, we all originate from the same fire. It is a time of inclusivity. A time for healing from the illusion.

The heart of our Despacho was held in a conch shell. A shell received in ceremony swimming with wild dolphins. It sat in my mesa for a year but was now on the altar. It was not a perfectly polished conch shell that one finds in a gift shop but instead broken and worn, ancient and primordial. Washed through eons of time by the oceans of Mama Cocha holding the depths of wisdom from deep in the watery belly of Pachamama. Perfect in her imperfections.

8206760_orig

Surrounding the shell were 15 pine cones from the altar, initially placed like a Christmas tree to hold the intention of Light. Throughout history pine cones have served as a symbolic representation of Human Enlightenment, the Third Eye and the Pineal Gland. Our pineal gland, shaped like and named after the pine cone, is at the geometric center of our brain and is intimately linked to our body’s perception of light. Its mathematical architecture is sacred geometry in its most divine expression. This was the sacred container to which all other elements were placed.

Each item on the altar had something to say. Why had it appeared? A prayer of thanks was blown into each offering and then it spoke. The message revealed.

Despacho Karen-8103

Sacred Union.

It is time for the divine marriage of the Feminine and Masculine, each holding within, all polarities. The conch shell expressing our deepest Feminine Nature. The Pine Cones expressing the Divine Masculine, the Enlightenment of Light. The number 15 adds up to 6. The number of union, harmony, marriage.

Both the Feminine and Masculine appeared in an unexpected way. The shell as light, the pine cone as dark. We cannot take our ideas of Feminine and Masculine and impose them on this union for this union is not what we expect it to look like. We are traveling through new frontiers guided by the divine order of the Natural world and the ethereal whispers of Spirit.

ChAOs.

Appearing like ancient hieroglyphics scribbled on a stick.

ChAoS.

Be comfortable in chaos for it is the divine order of the Universe. The seed of creation. How is it chaos and order sit side by side? When we elevate our awareness, our understanding rises to see the paradox in all of Nature.  To see the paradox in spiritual law. The spiritual laws we are governed by cannot be understood by our minds. Another level of understanding is needed to learn and respect our spiritual laws.

4263465_orig

Who among us has not had a trust violated? Somewhere inside us that feels disconnected? A source of love we thought would always be there only to end in a broken heart, a painful betrayal? When we drop deeper than the wounds and heartaches, deep into the belly of Pachamama there is a source that is infinite. A love that is never betrayed. A well of promise that is ours to drink from…again and again and again. The mistrust we feel is ours. It does not come from our Mother Earth for her love is unconditional, her connection unwavering.

CREATION.

Sitting like a halo in the north of our despacho lay violet petals of iris. The gold light of the masculine and the silver light of the feminine alchemize to violet at the moment of conception, whether it be the conception of a child or the conception of a vision. Violet is the light of creation, the very source of that is breath. How important it is to remember our breath in our daily practice for it is with our breath we create our life.

Our inhale infuses our Self with life force. Our exhale combines with sound to create a vibration, a frequency we vibrate into the world. That frequency may be dull or sleepy, bright or clear. Our signal is creation. Through our signal we impact the world. What are we sending out? What are we giving voice to?

11592_orig

We begin to raise our vibration elevating what we are creating in our lives through sound. When we make a sound we are clearing dense energies, creating movement where energy may be stuck. Our sound rings clear as a bell. Imagine what you can create from that source? Breath and sound are building blocks in the process of creation.

DREAM BIG.

Evolution is happening very quickly now. We have no choice but to move forward. Can you stand and stop a tsunami? As much as our fears and doubts want to resist there is an urgency that propels each and every one of us to step into our power. Holding a vision for humanity that is bigger than ever before will drive us forward and lift us from our demons.

We Are All Children.

A baby pine cone from the altar placed in the sacred container of the Feminine reminds us we  are always children. We come to prayer as sons and daughters. Children of the Earth. Children of the Stars. We bring the innocence of our heart to ceremony. To look at the world through the eyes of a child enlightens us, restoring wonder and delight in the natural world.

The Inner Teacher.

The message of the Despacho came from the altar. From the wisdom that called each one to place these elements there. This could not come through one voice. The relationship of guru to student is falling away. When we place a guru above us we establish a hierarchy in relationship believing the guru has more spiritual authority than we do. We give away our spiritual power. We lose sight of our spiritual wisdom.

Despacho Hands-8189

It is time to honor, discover and awaken the Inner Teacher. The wisdom that each one of us walks with. When that wisdom is woven within a collaborative tapestry it grows richer and deeper.

As wisdom comes through you it is a gift to be shared as we step into our deep knowing, our spiritual authority. This is what we are here to walk, to teach, to share. In our families, our communities, the circles in which we live.

The sacred womb of the Feminine can hold all of Creation. The depths from which the Feminine can hold Creation is met by the protection and trust that she is held and surrounded by in the Masculine. As this relationship is brought to balance, into ayni, each one of us can do the work we are here to do.

The work of Munay.

The work of Love.

My re-entry since returning from Peru has been slow. Slow on technology. Rusty with writing. So I will start with a prayer. A prayer shared by Apu Huascaran for the world.

One of the many privileges of the women’s journey to Peru over the past four years is the dialogue with the Apus. With the altomesayoks (Andean shamans who summon the Spirits of the Mountains) we step through the veils of this world. In a darkened room, void of all light, we pray. The strong flapping sound of wings announces the arrival of the Apus. The thuds beneath our feet are the entrance of the Santa Tierras, the ancient feminine land Spirits.

The spirits of the mountains and Earth in voice. They speak to us only in the dark. Arriving from dimensions unable to sustain physical form in the density of our planet’s light.

We were given a prayer to share with the world by Apu Huascaran in one of our last Apu sessions in Peru this May.

PREPARE FOR THE PRAYER BY THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS

Sitting in an upright posture, feet flat on the floor, hands on your thighs or at your sides.

Breathe in through your nose, and out through your mouth. In and out, slowly breathing in and out.

Feel your physical body relaxed.

Feel your energetic body calm, at ease, tranquil.

Feel your emotional body in a balanced state, centered, clear, and neutral.

Feel your mind at ease, there is nothing that you need or want in this moment.

Become aware of your pure mind, that which you feed with the work of prayer. The feeling of joy and happiness is present.

Your body that contains intuition is open.

Your body is one, and the golden light of will power flows over you and surrounds you.

You are united with your seven bodies.

Your body is in peace with the earth.

The fluids of your body flow with the water of the earth.

The fire of the earth is in your hearts.

The air of the universe flows in through your nose, and flows out of your body through your mouth.

I am how the Creator made me, and this is the moment to say…

Thank you Creator, thank you for my life.

Creator, thank you for my will.

Thank you for all of the organs in my body.

Thank you for the perfection of the footprints I leave
on my sacred path to help others find their way.

Thank you for my arms and my hands
made in your image enabling me to do your work Creator.

Thank you Mother Earth, my mother.

Thank you mother for giving me water so I do not die of thirst.

Thank you mother for giving me food so I do not die of hunger.

Thank you mother for the fire in my heart so I may love deeper.

Thank you mother for giving me your energy so I do not fall from tiredness.

Thank you for the air as cosmic food that gives me life.

Thank you mother for the heat of life that gives us light.

Help me Creator to understand your laws and to respect them.

Help me Creator to respect all these elements of life you have created;
the earth, the waters, the air, and the light,
and all things that live in the universe.

I pray for myself and everyone in the world.

Halle!!

Place your right hand on your heart.
Feel your heart beating.
Feel your hand being lifted by the energy of Creation.
